Meet Your CHIP Facilitators

Heather Rittgers and Barbara Maring are long-term Cedar Rapidians.  They are committed to the well-being of the community.  They are a mother-daughter team out to spread the positive message that CHIP provides.  

They received their training and licensing to run the Cedar Rapids Chapter of CHIP from the

 Lifestyle Medicine Institute.

Heather (Willer) Rittgers was featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette in 1991 for being an "Inspiration to Linn-Mar" after surviving a brain bleed due to a malformed blood vessel.  She had to re-learn how to walk, write and perform daily activities.  She has spent the last twenty-five years learning how to thrive.  Thanks to prayer and hard work she leads a normal, energetic life.

She is a Certified Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, as well as Personal Trainer, and Wellness Coach.  She is the founder of Whole Health By Heather LLC (  She is a member of the Medical Fitness Network and has ties to several other fitness and wellness organizations.   She has a supportive husband,  twin daughters in college and twin golden retrievers.  She loves spending time with friends and family, exercising, learning and cooking.  

Barbara Maring began her wellness journey in the 1980s.  She ran Pikes Peak marathon two separate years and participated in many road races in the community.  She also taught aerobics for Mercy Fitness and worked with Dagmar Munn to provide community wellness checks.  

She received her teaching degree from UNI and has taught in both Cedar Rapids and Linn-Mar districts.  Currently, she is completing her Lifestyle and Weight Management Specialist certification.  She loves socializing, being with family, and her loving husband, Tom.
